Returning Home

For many Azerbaijanis, Novruz includes the cherished tradition of returning to their ancestral villages to celebrate. Novruz represents not only the arrival of spring but also a time to reconnect with their roots and reunite with family members.

Throughout the country, bustling city streets empty as Azerbaijani families embark on journeys to their rural hometowns, carrying with them gifts, traditional foods, and heartfelt greetings. The journey home is filled with anticipation, laughter, and anticipation, as loved ones eagerly await their arrival.

In the embrace of their ancestral lands, Azerbaijanis find solace, belonging, and a profound sense of connection as they usher in the new year with cherished traditions and cherished loved ones.

This year holds a special significance as internally displaced people, who have been away from their homelands in Nagorno-Karabakh for three decades due to conflict. Some of the first refugees are finally able to return home this year. After years of displacement, these individuals are filled with a mixture of hope and anticipation, grief and relived trauma, and the uncertainty that comes with rebuilding communities that have long been desolate.

As they reunite with their communities, Novruz takes on added meaning, symbolizing not only the arrival of spring but also the dawn of a new chapter of peace, reconciliation, and restoration. In the embrace of their homeland, Azerbaijanis find solace and strength, reaffirming their bonds of unity and resilience as they usher in the new year with cherished traditions and renewed hope for the future.

Pray with us…

  • Pray for a sense of hope and restoration to fill the hearts of Azerbaijanis as they return to their homelands during Novruz. Ask for God’s blessings to abound, bringing renewed vitality, prosperity, and joy to their communities as they embrace this new chapter of their journey.
  • Pray for emotional healing and comfort for Azerbaijanis who are returning to homelands they were forcibly displaced from, especially those returning to Nagorno-Karabakh after decades of separation. Ask for God’s peace to envelop them as they confront the memories and trauma associated with their displacement.
  • Pray for Christians returning to their ancestral homes to be faithful in their witness to the goodness of God, and the true rebirth and renewal that comes through Jesus alone.
